What’s in a Name?
During Prohibition, St. Paul earned the nickname”Crooks Haven”when the citys police chief allowed notorious gangsters to lay lowif they checked in, made a “donation,” and kept crime outside city limits. (Sorry, Minneapolis.)
The”Ghostly”twist comes from theWabasha Street Caves, a famed gangster hangout rumored to be haunted. Legend tells of a waitress serving gangsters who vanished after a mysterious murder. Some say their spirits still dance in the caves, lingering in St. Pauls most haunted halls.
